Alarm constant when key is in the ON position

Ok i've read all the threads about this problem and disconnected each place that goes to the alarm idividually. So I found when I disconnect the wires going to the oil tank it turns off. Is the problem the PICKUP ASSEMBLY? Thats the only thing I cann think of at this point. I just didn't want to spend the 150 bucks if that is not it. PLEASE HELP

Welcome to the iboats forum mschraer. You need to post some information on your motor such as make, model and year. It could be that you have an obstruction in your oil delivery system or if it's an older VRO your going to hear some other advice on dealing with that.

The oil pick-up assembly at the top of the oil tank incorporates a float type switch which activates the warning horn when the oil level gets low. If it goes bad you have two choices: (1) replace it or (2) leave it disconnected. If you choose option (2) and you forget to keep an eye on the oil level..........you know the rest.

great info. A couple of questions: so if I leave the wires disconnected will the rest of the alarms work? Does the pick up assy do anything other than provide a way for oil pump to pick up the oil. And lastly the alarm that is sounding is it just for the oil level or does it mean something else on the pick up assy.

Yes

Does the pick up assy do anything other than provide a way for oil pump to pick up the oil.

Yes, it provides for low oil level warning which we are discussing and an oil filter is attached.

And lastly the alarm that is sounding is it just for the oil level or does it mean something else on the pick up assy.

I think I have decided to justt do away with oil injection and go OLD SCHOOL. It looks pretty simple in the Clymer manual. Any pro's or con's anyone can think of? It states I just have to Cap the oil line on the lower cowl, then disconnect the electrical stuff to the pump, remove the tank etc, and seal everything up. ANYTHING I'm missing? Once again thanks for your help.

I just read this again and see it's a '95. The '95 and prior had electronics in the oil tank and the oil tank was noted for setting off alarms for no apparent reason. That's the reason the tanks changed in '96. No more electronics.
