Any ideas on a "beep...beep" sequence alarm on a new to me 1988 Evinrude 60? It is a freshwater motor with great compression (140psi) on all three cyl. Great water going through the thing, new waterpump, new plugs and carb kits. I was told that the VRO was disconnected and it is capped off on the pumo. As I recall though that motor would "beep...beep" if the oil was low? Overheating was a solid tone? The temp gun on the head after about 5 minutes on the muffs read 143 and that's when the beeping started. Thanks in advance!

Yes, Overheat is a solid tone. Intermittant beep could be low oil signal. If the VRO has been disconnected, the electrical pigtail, on the bottom of the VRO pump, should be disconnected.

Excellent! Thanks, I do believe that was plugged back in upon installation on my boat. What should the normal operating temp on this motor be?

Normal operating temp should be in the range of 140-150 degrees. Simple test is to bring it up to temp and you should be able to keep your finger on the thermostat housing for a count of three.
