Hello I am new to this forum and I just ran into a problem with my motor this weekend during a tournament. I have a Johnson/evenrude 1998 faststrike fitch. I was going back to the ramp for chackin and about halfway back my alarm went off and it was a lost constant alarm that went on for 10 seconds of so. I went to an idle and the check engine light was on but the loud alarm stopped. I got the manual out and it stated that fuel restriction and overheating makes this sound. It also stated it overheating, egine would kick down to low rpm and it did not do this. I checked the fuel bulb and it was not tight so I squeezed bulb until tight. After ten minutes i fired back up and was on my way and the alarm went off but was running fine back to the ramp. Oh by the way did check water pee and was fine. The next day take off was fine until about 4 miutes full throdle and loud constant sound and light came back on. This did this througout the day. The light would turn off at full throddle and then a few minutes it would come back on. Can someone give me some abvise to my next steps!!<br /><br />David

Re: Alarm going off

I am no expert on Ficht's but have had many an alarm on mine in the last 3 years. From what I have gathered if the engine doesn't go into slow mode and the light isn't flashing, a fault was detected and should be checked. Should be safe to run back to the dock. Get a service tech. to read out the alarm codes to see what is going on. <br /><br />Some things that cause this are water in fuel, throttle position sensor, hi / low engine temp, hi / low voltage.

You need to get with someone who has the proper software for this motor and knows how to use it. The motor will store a diagnostic code in the EMM/ECU and can be retrieved with this software.

Re: Alarm going off

Hey horsefly. I have not done anything yet. It is sitting in the garage right now wondering what I need to do next. I have a Evenrude sevice tech down the road and I know it is going to be a arm and a leg, but I need to hook it to a computer to see what its going to say the problem is. Did your check engine light stay on for awhile after the 10 to 20 second constant beep went off? I am trying to gather as much information as posible before I drive it down to the tech..

The software is available on-line. Try BOATSETUP.COM, they deal with alot of Ficht questions. It might be something simple but you need to retrieve the codes.

Re: Alarm going off

Got software and reveiwed the code. The code was #37 water in fuel. So I changed the fuel filter canister and cleaned the conection to the water sensor on bottom hooked all back up. Went out yesterday and on the way out running about 4000 RPm on check engine light and buzzer went off. Checked and was code 37 again. What next I just changed the filter. Any ideas!!<br /><br />David
