alarm is going off

I have a 1989 Johnson GT 200 V-6 with out V.R.O. What is the correct operating temperture for this motor? Is there a way to check the desenting units to see if they are working correctly? Any help would be appreciated.<br />Thank You, Bill

140-150 Degress. If you can't hold your hand on the head while it's running, it's too hot!

You really need a manual.<br />The tan wire tempture switches should close between 197 & 209degs. They should open between 147 & 177degs.<br />Like rickdb1boat sez, operation should be 140-150degs.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Cricket39, temp sensors would have to be removed and artificial heat added to bulb end to determine whether they are opening and closing to alarm circuit.problem in testing is that it is difficult to achieve exact temp to probe without overshooting predetermined alarm range.you could possibly heat water in container on stove with thermometer submersed while checking continuity on sensor to perform check.However, I would recommend removing and installing new sensors if ones installed now are in question.Not that expensive.Just assure you obtain ones specific to your motor application.dealer should also have temp stik to check powerhead for overheat while motor is in operation.Anything over 163 is cause for concern.
