Alcohol in gasoline?

A while back I read a post describing an easy method to detect amount of alcohol in gas. Does anyone know this experiment? I've been wanting to find out which brand of gas to use.

fill a jar about 1/4 way with water. mark the water level all the way around the jar. fill the rest of the way with fuel shake and let settle.if alcohol is present in the fuel the water level will be higher than the mark. for what its worth Briggs and Stratton has a calibrated tester that uses this same idea that will tell you the % of alcohol in your fuel

If you can find Non Oxygenated fuel in your area use it. It is the stuff for classic cars. You can search google.co for a list in your area.

If the fuel has "oxygenates" (alcohol, whether methyl or ethyl) in it, it MUST be posted on the pump. There is a VERY stiff fine for fuel providers that sell fuel other than what they are advertising.<br /><br />By law, there can be no more than 10% oxygenate in a fuel and still be advertised as regular or standard. Even at 10%, it must be noted on the pump.

i found the part # for the Briggs and Stratton alcohol fuel tester it is 100023 any good mower shop can order this from Briggs cost should be under 10 bucks

Thanks for all your input! This is duel pupose...1) to determine wich fuel to use and 2)my son will be doing it for a science fair project.
