I changing out all the bellows on my Alpha 1 drive and might change the
gimbal bearing does not seem bad but may as well while I'm there. If the drive came off with ease the alignment should be find even if I replace the bearing
right???because it going back in the same place right?

Re: Alignment question?

if the drive came right off chances the alignment was correct. however, when you pop in a new bearing you will have to align it with the coupler which requires an alignment tool, gimbal bearings actually swivel around in the housing a bit and you will likely have to fight the drive back on if you dont get it aligned.

If the gimbal bearing is in good shape why change it? save your money for gas to go out and have fun. Don't do it just because, there is no need. Grease it and go. If you DO replace it you WILL need to get an alignment tool and set it to the coupler.

There's a saying IF IT"S NOT BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT!!! Do maintenance, but don't go lookin for trouble if it's not needed.

Doesn't matter if you change the gimbal bearing or not. You ALWAYS should check the alignment when you pull a drive. Doing so may prevent you from changing your coupler someday and that requires an engine pull. An alignment bar is cheap at $50.
