Re: Alignment tool how to use

Im not saying you are wrong. In fact you are absolutely right, and I had to learn the hard way. This should be made a sticky. When I first came on here and searched for the procedure on how to align my engine there is no STRAIGHT answer. I do allot more reading on here than asking questions because I know what ever question I have has been covered many, many times. This is just one of those questions I had trouble with...

Ok any one doe this to an OMC drive? I can not get no more than an inch or so of marks on my tool at that they r hard to see. I have adjusted the heck out it too. so i got it what i thought was close and drive went on ok so i guess i well see. This is a very shady way to align some thing. I have read and read on how to do this for over 3 weeks even did it on another boat it all went ok on that one. so im aat a lost

I've done this on OMC, Volvo (SX Style), and Mercruiser, they all work the same. I't not a shady method, it works. You have a problem. Could have a bad coupler, rotten transome, bad rear mounts, or maybe you are just doing something wrong hard to say from here.
Try turning the engine 1/2 a revolution and see if the alignment changes.

Since you replaced the engine, several things could be wrong. Coupler not flat against the flywheel, the square section of the rear mounts not in the flywheel cover correctly, large washer not seated in the flywheel cover on the rear mounts.
There is no side to side adjustment. Just make sure the engine wasn't pushed to one side when bolted down.

The motor is in the same bolt holes motor mounts as before. Every thing went together smooth no issues with the fly wheel and bell housing thing fit on ok.

The rear mounts are fixed it can go forwards with the rear mounts but based on where the front mounts are is where the rear end up being. The rear mounts are bolted down good with the big washers sitting in there place. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
