I have a 5.0mpi with a bravo 1 outdrive. The boat was bought new Aug 1 of last year, it was run approx 10 times then winterized. Everything seemed to run great. Should I have it aligned before the boating season this year, or just run the boat and have it done, next time it's winterized? Boat has approx 30 hrs on it. THanks.

Re: Alignment???

If it's new, and has never been re-aligned this is the time to do it. They tend to settle or readjust the most early. If there are any alignment issues then waiting another season could lead to a big problem which may not be covered by warranty without the presrcibed initial, 1st year (every year) re-alignment . . .

Re: Alignment???

That is one thing we always did for customers on the 20 hour service (If they wanted it, it's not required). We pulled the drive just to make sure nothing changed since new. When you say it was winterized, most shops recommend pulling the drive and checking for water DURING winterizing, and at that point you would check the alignment just because the drive is off. was the drive pulled, or did it just get drained? (That, is not winterizing)

Re: Alignment???

definately recheck the alignment, driveshaft is steel, coupler is aluminum, this area wears quickly with misalignment due to settling.

I don't think they pulled the drive, the did all the filters, filled it with antifreeze, and changed all the fluids. I did some calling around today, it's going in the shop to have a hamby protector put on so I will have it aligned then...thanks.

Understand one thing, it doesn't have to be aligned, it just needs to be checked at least once a year to verify that everything is still ok.

Re: Alignment???

Nope, drive has to be off. that is the only way to get to the gimbal bearing that you stick the alignment bar thru.
