I have a 1979 6-hp.Evinrude kicker that I ran last year. I discovered that the gasket between the carb bodies (upper module and bowel)was leaking fuel, should have realized much sooner when I could not get a firm bulb on the prime. Ran quite rich for some time. As a result the plugs have fouled out. I'm in the process of rebuilding the carb now.
My question to all is this, what might be the best remidy to rid the cylinders/head of this Carbon build-up from the unburned fuel aside from removing the head. I had a friend tell me to fill the cylinders with Kerosene and let it soak for a day, remove plugs and blow out mixture by pulling starter rope! What do you think about this method? Any suggestions regarding this or any other method would be greatly appreciated!
 T-290

Re: All Carboned Up !

Buy a can of "Tuner" from the local marine shop and follow directions on the can....You may want to pull the plug and spray directly in chamber(have piston positioned closest to the hole) put the plug back in and rotate the engine to coat all internal areas. Let it sit with the plug pointing upward, so the liquid will flow around the rings. After a day, remove plug and rotate over to expell bulk of liquid, then follow can directions for running.......
