Im looking to redo my entire stereo system. I had all infinity mids and highs and a eclipse 12" sub. It sounds great, but the the infinity speakers keep having to be replaced. The sub is staying, but im looking to replace everything else I want great sound! I was thinking all WETSOUND has anyone had experience with them? What are your recommendations? My boat is a supra launch 21' 2004 with two batteries. The boat is completely redone by me. New engine and no original parts. Its also saltwater proof in terms of everything all stainless and the engine runs with antifreeze. I need speakers that can handle heavy use and saltwater. Thanks for all comments

Re: all out stereo

Hope you have deep pockets.
Thx buddy. Price is not the issue. I'm asking about amps for the 6 highs in the boat and the tower speaker system not just these speakers. I have an amp for the sub and the sub. I have always thought wetsound carries the best tower speaker systems available which is why I'm going in that direction. Any comments about the mids highs and amps would be greatly appreciated along with any suggestions.

Re: all out stereo

See signature for suggestions. I recommend it all.

Why do your Infinity's keep having to be replaced? That doesn't sound right. Which models do you have and what are they doing? Sounds like you may have a problem with how you're driving them, not the speakers themselves.

If you're not down for the Infinity's, go Polk all the way. Truth be told, I kind of wish I had from the beginning. Polk's highs are so ridiculously crisp and clear that it puts Infinity to shame. Infinity takes it on the low end but Polk rules the highs.

I've never used Wet Sounds equipment, but judging from the website it looks to be quality but way, way over priced. If you're in a money-is-no-object kind of mode, go with those, JL Audio speakers and a JL Audio marine class D six channel amps. You'll spend literally 5 times as much as you would on just about as comparable of a setup with Polk/MB Quart, but as long as we're throwing money at things.. hey.. why not. Class D amps will do down to 1 ohm per channel with no problem.. just use 1 AWG marine grade cable only. Use channels 1-4 for your highs and bridge channels 5-6 for your tower. I would be running at least a 100-150A marine grade alternator as well. Make sure you use 1AWG cable on the alternator for both the power and ground wires. (Bracing myself for the imminent discussion on god forbid using anything but a stock alternator)

Use Mediabridge copper clad aluminum speaker wire exclusively as well. It stands up to corrosion much better than traditional copper wire. Search Amazon for it.

Re: all out stereo

I have been through a total of 8 (4 pairs) of infinity rack speakers. The speakers are the ones that are in two separate black housings each holding two miss and a tweeter. The setup initially came with a microphone that looked like a marine radio. Speak through it and it cut the music and used the tower speakers as a megaphone. The amp was 600 watt 4 channel the four speakers in the back each pair had/have own channel (150 wts * 2) and the tower had the other two channels (150 on each enclosure). The bow speakers are run off the head unit. The only ones that I have been replacing are the rack enclosures one would go out at a time by either making that rattleing sound as if the cone was cracked or completely going out as if burnt voice coils. They are are 6-800 for the the pair. The initial setup was like 1200$ for the amp microphone and tower setup. The amp went out after the first summer and microphone after second. This was heavily heavily used. All the highs have worked fine and sounded great since there install. This is the first year I had problems with the two starboard ones bc the tiney wires in the back have corroded and broke. I initially installed all infinity 6 years ago bc the scream without much needing much power hence would draw as much from the batteries.

As for Polk mom's my buddies super air nautique team edition came with them factory and they sounded horrible when turned up but great at low to medium volume. My infinities far exceeded them at higher volume. Thanks for your input it is greatly appreciated. I will contact you before the big purchase to make sure about Amps and speaker combinations bc this is where I lack experience. The 600 watt amp is a Walmart amp that with the idea I could just replace it after it went out but it never did go out hah. This is not burning up the tower speakers bc the infinity amp did the same thing. I will also check to see what kind of alternater I'm working with Thanks again.

Has anyone experience any wet sound speakers besides their tower speakers? Experienced their amps?

Oh and I'm down to the last tower enclosure went through 7 of them. When one went out I'd just replace it. Those days are hopefully over as I won't be purchasing more infinity. Also I mailed them the amp and they did nothing for me.

Re: all out stereo

Interesting.. I wonder what actual model of Infinity's you had and if you may have been over driving them with too powerful of an amp. What amp were you using? Mine and every other pair that I've seen are pretty much bulletproof.

As far as the Polk's sounding bad when turned up, that's from not being properly amplified. Crappy amp = crappy sound when turned up. Put something with juice behind them and they'll sing..

You do sound like you're pretty hard on your equipment. In your case, I honestly would go with that JL Audio 6 channel class D amp. for everything and be done with it. http://www.creativecaraudio.net/pro...utm_campaign=googleshopping&os=googleshopping

I would ask around the wakeboarder.com forum about the tower speakers as the guys over there eat, sleep and breathe those things: http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewforum.php?f=21&sid=7d1f2a50e44ad62b58fd695388a120d0

Re: all out stereo

I just replied to the thread and for some reason it didn't post.. Here we go again.

The infinity speakers I kept replacing are http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...r-System-pair&i=71463&aID=506G2B&merchID=4006

I am very interested in your amp selection. Firstly we'll say that the four mids that will be in the pit will be 150 RMS a pair. I plan on the tower being this setup as long as they come out by the end of the month http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/REV410_spec.html. They ask for 400 watts RMS and 800 peak. Therefore we will need a minimum of 600 watts. Is 600 even enough if im pushing them hard? Maybe we should be looking for an 800 watt amp? I just emailed the company about how much power they recommend reserving for this system. I have a badass alpine amp for my sub. Its the PDX 1.6 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_m14_i182_alpine-marine-amplifiers.html. What do you think about the another one of these by alpine for the highs and rack speakers? Another option are the wetsound amps http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/syn_overview.html. Lastly but not leastly JL audio but which one http://www.creativecaraudio.net/products/category/Amplifiers/3266.0.1.1.71372.71655.46510.0.0
Of the three brands and amps available which would you go with for lasting longevity. Im sure they will all be clear but I feel I should be overpowered so the amp does get to hot.
Again I sincerely appreciate the help

Re: all out stereo

Ok Fellas I have everything figured out. My two amps are these:
1.http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/SYN4_spec.html
2.http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/SYN2_spec.html
My question is what size fuses do I need to put into the + wire running from each amp to the positive battery terminal. The two amps are different sizes and I will be running 4 gauge tinned marine wire.
WHAT SIZE FUSES AND WHERE DO I GET MARINE GRADE FUSES. I will be in salt water.
Thanks for all comments,
Beau

I went with all wet sound btw

I've never seen "marine grade fuses" before. The amp manufacturer should be able to tell you what amp rating fuse you need..

WOW, they are really proud of that Wetsounds brand stuff.....
JL audio equipment sounds amazing and is literally half the price. Why throw money away? But, then again...i'm cheap.

..and I'll go a step farther and say that for half the price of JL, you can have something even more powerful that sounds even better.. :D

..but hey.. money to burn is money to burn..

Re: all out stereo

Firstly I meant to ask about a marine fuse casing not marine fuse.. Give me a break a marine fuse. I already said I redid all my electrical and hardware with high grade marine wire and stainless and dropped a new engine in myself. I have never heard of a marine grade fuse either. I have seen marine grade inline waterproof fuse holders just not for 4 awg wire. Since y'all haven't got a solution (which is why people go on forums) I will be using two circuit breakers. And when I am finished I will show and tell. AND in the end for all the haters out there the reason I went with wet sound is bc they are a company that does boat stereos and boat stereos only they have never done anything but boat stereos. I have never heard of a complaint about them besides price. They also seems to have designed the speakers to be as waterproof as possible from the ground up not turning a car stereo speaker into a marine speaker. I wanted amps and speaker system that wouldn't ask for more batteries or overheat in our hot LA weather. And most of all I am tired of replacing infinity amps and speakers for going out for no apparent reason.

Oh has anyone used an electrical saughtering gun? I plan on saughtering the speaker wires then putting dielectric grease. Are there any quick tips I should know about saughtering electrical connections to the speakers. I was told saughter a 1/0 awg cable from the + sign to - sign on the battery.

Re: all out stereo

practice soldering some scrap wires and connectors first, heat the wire or connector not the solder(solder will flow towards heat) and use a heat sink to protect components from heat travel in the wire
