There is a little allen screw on my lower unit between the fill and vent screws that is leaking oil. What is this screw? Oh yah, 1974 135 evinrude. I think I need to replace the O ring on it but I am afraid of pulling it out in case it is the shift pivot. I am getting water in the oil and Im pretty sure this is where its getting in.

That's a bearing screw for the pinion bearing. There should not be anything leaking from it unless it's loose.

You should pressure test the gearcase to see what's really leaking. Use the fitting from a lube tube to apply 12 to 15 PSI to the drained gearcase and drop it in the tank so you can see the air bubbles.

Nothing will fly apart if you take it out. Remove it and put some Locktite Screw Lock (blue) on it, and reinstall.

It was loose.
It is the source of the leak.
I will put lock tite on it, thank you for that.
