Ha. Our 08 Equinox is supposed to be able to tow ~3500 lbs. We'll see. My new boat to be picked up in April is ~2400 dry, without trailer...

2400 pounds dry weight? Add the trailer, fuel and all the other gear and you will be over that 3500 lb tow rating.

My biggest concern would be stopping in a hurry. I use to pull a nautique with a 84 Bonneville and in a light rain went to stop at an intersection and that thing pushed me completely through. Pucker factor was very high.

Been there a couple times myself. It sure gets your attention!

I was towing a 19 footer with a 98 S-10

Toyota Previa.

Mine has AWD, 4 wheel discs, a supercharger and weighs almost 4000lbs. I maintain the hell out of it and added a high quality trans cooler.

I tow my 19 foot aluminum w 4.3l stern drive anywhere. I just don't try and push it up the hills.

I used to have a full size 4x4 Tundra but got sick of the fuel costs when I wasn't towing. I also like the extra room for the kids (keeps them separated).

Sold the tundra, bought the Previa, and paid back the loan. Works for me...

That's true...that's why I had the dealer order a loadrite trailer with factory disc brakes. I'm not too worried about getting going, but when stopping it's nice to know that those 'extra' brakes are there. ;)

Re: almost fried my van pulling new boat home!

Hmmm...an update....

I found out what the ominous shudder was getting up that bridge. It was a bad CV joint. It finished going bad a weeks or two later...boot was broken, and sure enough it was shot.
Put a remanufactured one in...now Im ready to pull that boat!

Not really, but I bet I could if I had to.

Still looking for a cheap truck. I 'bout got the ****s of craigslist. I was heading over to look at a blazer...the fellow told me that there were a few more people headed over, so I knew I may not get it....
I kid you not, as I was pulling up the street, I saw the truck, and I saw the guy counting his money from the guy who made it there before me!

Lots of people who dont return calls and stuff too!

IF money was not an issue, Id be fine, its just that I am a bottom feeder. Well lets just say that I am broke most of the time, and I am a cheap SOB anyway. Family of 7, and Im the only income!

My Dad hustles cars up in PA...his brother owns a dealer, and Pop buys cars at auction for his brother and also he picks up a few for himself to make some $$ on, so hes gonna look out for a solid Jeep for me. I think Im gonna go with a cherokee. I will keep looking for that impossible deal meanwhile however...

Get the 4.0 Inline six or better yet get the V8. They pull great.

Re: almost fried my van pulling new boat home!

I pulled my 4000lb Chaparral rig for one season with my 10 year old fwd, Oldsmobile minivan before I wised up and bought an appropriate suv. Lots of long and short distance trips. It has a tiny v6, and had over 100k miles at the time. It's still my daily driver with way over 100k miles on it now. Believe me I held my breath that the tranny would make it every trip. The difference is that MN is pretty flat and even a slight hill was a challenge. If you're cheap get yourself a nice used GM SUV. They depreciate like crazy but are great trucks. The Trailblazer even with the I6 is very capable and in the dime-a-dozen category. They started producing them for the 2002 model year.
