Almost lost the motor

Last weekend I was out fishing in my 14ft boat with my brand new 25hp yamaha 2-stroke and it was a little choppy out and I had been hitting some rather large boat wake, anyway while I was crusing along at 25mph the steering started to feel weird with the tiller and then the motor came off the transom, I grabbed onto the front handle and reved the motor down. I managed to save the motor, but it scarred the living hell out of me. It could have been a $2400 anchor! I now know why there are bolt holes on the motor mount.

Glad you caught it before it went under.
2 years ago same thing happened to me...... I had a heck of time trying to turn the speed down. It was a little 7.5hp, but man those things have quite the torque when they are at top speed and you are holding on to it above the water trying to slow it down, without falling out of the boat! :^

Happened to me. I as going along and turned quite fast and the weight shifted very fast. This was a 5hp Seagull! Very heavy for the boat, anyway it tilte forward, prop came out the water, everyone in the harbour looked out at me as I was the only one out at the time and then the ngine dissapeared beneath the waves! I went diving for it later but to no success. When it was low tide, I went down and could smell the petrol! I found it. Took it to peices and within 2 hours, it was running again! Amazing seagulls, never die!

Everytime I go out now I check the knobs every ten minutes. I'm not making that mistake again. On a side note ive never owned a yamaha before and I have to say it is the best motor I have ever used.
