Down rather than up,saves the bellows.(not stretched). But due to some trailers, can't be done.

What happened to the cylinders last year that they had to be rebuilt?

DHP

Re: alpa-one winter storage

I left them trimmed all the way up last year, and after the first time out this year the drive was real slow(noticed water in tank) had a leak in one of the cylinders. I just figured that this was caused by leaving them up all winter. Thanks for the help,

I would trim down but not far enough to rest on the floor. You dont want the weight to be transferred to the drive if the tires on the trailer lose air. When was the last time you pulled the drive. It is a good practice to remove at the end of each season. It will allow you to store indoors or in a basement which your drive will appreciate. It will also allow you to check the gimbal bearing and lube the shift arm and cable end.Read a manual and there is more you can do in the off season with the drive off.Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I pull the drive off every year, for PM. The boat is kept in my garage during the winter which is heated. Already have a manual. Thanks

If you don't want to remove the drive but can't lower completely down because it will hit the floor ( such has my case) then another option is to place 2 or 3 pieces of 2x6 under to trailer wheels to get a bit more clearence maybe a couple of axle stands or blocks under the trailer frame to support the trailer in the event a tire goes down.
