Boat started over heating when under load today, I just slow down and temp drops. Ran better than ever for an hour or so then stopped to get lunch and it started when we pulled back out.

When on the muffs there is hot water coming from the area where the shift shaft couples to the foot. Its not coming from the shaft just that general area. What does this mean ?

Water pump and thermostat are fairly new ran 2 tanks since they were changed. I just got through setting the timing so I thought maybe the distributor slipped, but its still tight, and dwell is running 29 deg. I don't think its running lean cuz its performing well.

I was told the water pump on the engine was not important unless it had a closed cooling system. Is that true

The engine pump is very important. It circulates water through the block just like it does on a vehicle. If it were not there, the impeller would fill the block but the water would not be moving enough and therefore not remove enough heat from the engine.

I kind thought if it wasn't important it wouldn't be there. But the guy that told me seemed to be pretty intelligent. He said don't change it if its not leaking, I didn't think he would turn away business like that if it weren't true.

I'm sure that's the problem, I looked into it and the impeller blades are almost gone.

I knew it didn't sound right, thanks for the reassurance.
