Washing the boat yesterday I noticed this:

At most it's been like this for two weeks because that was the last time I washed it. Looking at pictures of that gasket online it seems the entire gasket in that section is out. Is two weeks enough time to do serious damage?

The boat is a 2008 Sea Ray with only 61hrs on her and this is the second gasket issues I've had. This is beginning to get annoying.

Very simply, That's P*ss poor work. Who did it? Take it back and make them replace the the U-joints and gimbal bearing if the bellows has water in it.

and don't go back there anymore....and tell them that.

Re: Alpha 1 Bell Housing Gasket

I believe my original post might have been misleading. Sorry. This is the second gasket issue I've had but not the same gasket. The first issue was the water circulating pump. One of the bolts holding the pump on backed loose causing the gasket to fail. Not fun when water is being pumped IN the boat. Covered under warranty.

This gasket failure looks like it was caused by somebody not paying attention during the installation of the outdrive.

I do plan on having a discussion with my Sea Ray dealer soon. I bought a Sea Ray so I wouldn't have to deal with crap like this.

If gasket bad all the way through it would be leaking water there. That is right next to the O-Ring between the drive and bell.

That has nothing to do with Sea Rey it a MC drive. The Dealer did install it however. Boats come new with the drives off.

"Boats come new with the drives off."

I always wondered about that. I figured that they did but wasn't sure. So, this issues I can be mad at my dealer for?

Seeing how the Mercruiser unit is in a Sea Ray boat I fail to see how it has nothing to do with Sea Ray. They are both owned by the same parent company so what one does affects the other.
