Hello all,

If my boat wants to pull left does that suggest that my drive is counter/LH rotation (i.e. spins anticlockwise?) Forgive my ignorance!

Cheers,

D.

No.
Putting a counter rotation on a single engine craft is rarely done.
Your boat turning to the left could be a matter of having more weight on that side, improperly adjusted trim tab, bent skag, warn gimble ring, uneven keel.

And then there is the paddlewheel effect of the prop. The prop spins clockwise, so it pushes the water around it out and to the right, so to speak. the boat will always be easier to turn with the prop thrust instead of against it.
Typically the shorter/lighter the boat the more you notice it, the longer/heavier the boat is the less you notice it.

Same thing happens on single engine propeller airplanes (cessnas)

Nope,... But,.. It does suggest the the Torque Tab over the prop needs adjusting...

Re: alpha 1 - counter rotation

hi all,

the boat did pull to the left until i adjusted the trim tab some time back (one of my first iboats fixes). i posted the question out of curiosity more than anything else. i think i had read that a boat will pull in a certain direction naturally due to the spin of the prop and that on a regular drive that would be to the RIGHT. My boat had pulled to the LEFT so I wondered if it was counter rotation but it appears not!

cheers all,

D.

Aside from the torque tab, loading the boat heavier on the starboard (right) side will help with any listing or drift.

Direction of pull will also be influenced by the trim of the leg... The more trimmed in, the more the pull to the left.
