The boat is a 87 Sea Ray w/3.0L Alpha 1. Had the exhaust bellows professionally replaced a couple years ago. Ever since the bellows has come off at some point during each season. Based on what I read here it's not a big deal but the annoyance factor is high. Should I find another mechanic? Go to an exhaust tube?

lot's of people don't use it on the exhaust bellow's - but "bellows adhesive" should take care of it... welcome to the board
bruce

Thanks. There seems to be a wealth of good info on this board. I believe the mechanic used adhesive on all previous attempts.

Personally I found the bellows from hell a few years back.I've done ?? ? ??? of these over the years.Customer came back the next day and it was off.Redid it,the next AM it was off (in my shop).Redid it on Saturday, parked it outside till Tuesday with the drive down.No more problems.
Things aren't easy even on this side of the wrench, sometimes.
DHP

ever since merc had to take 1,1,1,[a chemical found in adhesives]out of the bellows adhesive it has become harder.to get the bellows to stay on.we still get them from merc brand new that fall off.nothing pisses you off more than having to put the ex. bellows back on a new boat before it even leaves the door.i have found that sierra bellows are more likely to come off for some reason.we have started putting a groove with a die grinder on the bottom of the area that the bellows slips onto, and still use bellows adhesive.and have good luck with this .

Thanks again. I appreciate getting the mechanics' point of view. Mine has been an ace with every other repair.
