Hello, asking for advice on some work I am getting done on my 1990 sea ray 220 cc. Have an estimate for 3300 to install water pump , transom kit, shift cable assembly kit, bushing kit, bellows, trim sender switches, 65 mando alternator, and last but not least trim bracket relays. Priced the parts out at 1580. The rest is labor. Has anyone else had similar work done. Was kinda shocked 140 of that total was getting it running. It sat 2 years without starting till about a month ago. Any feedback would be appreciated

sounds about right to me, however, depending on labor charges in your area count on about 8 - 10 hours work +parts and shop supplies.

there are a few things you could easily do yourself to save a few $$$

there is a saying about watercraft " use it or loose it " , which means if you don't use boats and they sit they deteriorate more and then cost to get them seaworthy again.

pay the piper and go boating .

first, welcome aboard

next your boat is now 34 years old. it was designed to last about 15 years before many of the systems need replacing

with boats, "Sitting Ships go to S#!T"

learn to do the work yourself. 99% of the people on this site do their own work

if you have been following the service manual and removing the drive every year for alignment and service and keeping up on the water pump every 3-5 years, it will be easy. drive off in 10 minutes (includes getting a beer and finding tools) (videos on how to in the stickies at top of the forum). However if the drive hasnt been off in the last decade, it could be an 8 hour job involving power tools and lots of swear words

here is the link to the stickies https://forums.iboats.com/threads/must-have-technical-information-for-diyers.335378/

and the sub link that has the videos https://forums.iboats.com/threads/miscellaneous-mercruiser-information.323278/

in addition to the list you have, your fuel system will need to be gone thru because no mater what snake oil you add to fuel, it will only last up to a year.

you also have your yearly trailer maintenance and the yearly engine service to do

+1 to stresspoint's and Scotts statement.

Boats cost a LOT of money to get seaworthy if they are not used and sit for long periods of time without being used, maintained, and the necessary services performed at the proper interval periods.

Remember the common maintenance statement: X number of miles/hours or x months/years, whichever comes first. They mean exactly what that says.

So unless people like getting a shovel out and using it to shovel money to those working fixing/replacing their equipment at fair market rates, maintain and use your boats or sell them.
