ALpha 1 gen 2 adjusting shift cable at controls

My control handle has 3 dents for neutral/forward/reverse positions. The handle drops in and locks firmly into these grooves which allows for the boat to be shifted into gear before engine RPM is affected. I replaced all of my bellows, gimbal bearing, and lower shift cable on my alpha 1 gen 2 over the weekend. I adjusted the cable at the engine per the manual, and when shifted into first the handle drops into the first detent as designed and fully engages forward gear. Putting it into the reverse position engages reverse, but not fully as you can hear the clutches still slipping in the lower unit. I have to go slightly past the revers position and slightly raise the RPM/s before it will engage fully. If I watch the controls at the engine I can see the shift cable move as the handle falls into position, and then move slightly more as the handle comes out of the detent and increased engine RPM.

Is there a way to adjust the cable at the control end to take up some slack? Here is an older picture of my console and control setup.

cables are adjusted at the motor end both control and shift. no adjustment at the control box
Is the brass nut fully seated in the housing? cant have threads showing ,it will affect reverse. Is the setscrew in the slide installed so that the slide will spin on the cable and not have slack?

Thanks, these instructions are a bit more detailed than the ones I have in my worthless manual. I will run over it again tonight and see what happens.

Thanks!

Ok I went over these instructions last night and got the cable adjusted per the spec. Forward gear locks in perfect, reverse still needs to travel a little past the detent before it catches. I believe I need to adjust the cables per step 12/13 where they note adjusting the cable at the controls. I pulled the cover off my control unit and I can't see a way to adjust the cable. Anyone know how this is done?

the cables ARE NOT adjusted at the control box. All adjustments are on the shift plate
Where do you see adjusting the control box
Reverse is adjusted by raising the mounting stud
