Anybody have the specifications for the pressure test (i.e., holds 15 psi for 24 hours, or loses no more than X psi every Y minutes)?

The leak is now fixed.

I decided that before ripping into the drive again it may be a good idea to verify that the leak tester is not itself leaking.

Since the plug is 3/8-16 I just put a bunch of teflon tape on it and used an acorn nut. I then pressurized the tester and sure enough, with the tester closer to my head a could hear a faint leak. Sprayed soapy water around the brass tee and found the leak.

The tester hose is 1/4" and my brass fittings are all 1/4" but I didn't have one small enough to get a 1/4" hose on. So I went to AutoZone and they didn't have one either, but did have one that was 1/8" male pipe x 1/4" hose barb, and a 1/4" mpt x 1/8 fpt bushing. The threads apparently weren't cut right; no amount of sealer, dope or tape got it to seal right.

It's unfortunate that I go there only for things I figure on using once or twice (tool wise at least) and I get something I can't even use once.

Now I'm wondering if I should replace that O-ring or not bother with it since the drive is sealed up good. It's held 12.5 psi for 24 hours.

There is nothing wrong with that result. :D Did you vacuum test it?

I know. But you know how it works: you start taking something apart and without fail one part you don't have holds up the project timeline; you get all the parts first and find you don't need any of them since nothing is wrong.

Did not vacuum test it.
