I've got the outdrive and bell housing off for other maintenance. The speedo hose is damaged and old. I want to replace it. How do I remove it from the outside? There's a fitting on the inside, but I can't find anything in the manual that tells how to remove the outer piece. Does it just pry/pull off and it's stuck? I'd hate to break anything up in there...

Thanks.

You really can't remove it from the outside. It's crimped to the fitting on the transom. That fitting is a two piece fitting that has a male hose/barb fitting that screws into a female hose/barb that screw into the transom plate.

So what's the correct replacement method? Undo the inside fitting and pull it through?

Thanks.

Yes. Once you unscrew both fittings you'll be able to pull the hose from the inside.

just cut the hose on the outside of the transom and install an in-line hose barb with the new length of hose to replace the old damaged portion - much easier that fiddling around with the thru-hull fitting

no sense spending all that time for a speedo system that isn't accurate to begin with

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 speedo hose replacement

While a lower section of the hose was broken and could have been fixed with a barb, the remainder of that section was original and in poor shape. Since I already had the exhaust manifolds off, it was pretty simple to undo the fittings and pull it back through. I'll get some new hose and replace it tomorrow...

Thanks all!
