Alpha 1 Gen II outdrive year/ID questions

Hi guys.
I recently picked up a 1980 Chris Craft Scorpion 210. It has a Chevy 350 in it and an Alpha 1 Gen II drive (SN is either 8B870858 or 8D870858 - hard to read).
This is only my second boat, so my experience is limited...

I pulled the lower unit today and replaced the impeller which went smoothly, but I have a few issues that I know of now.

1. When I went to drain the lube, I got a LOT of water and not a lot of lube. The drive leaks gear lube out the water inlet holes in the lower (the ones your muffs cover) when the drive is up in the trailer position and has been sitting for a while. Could this be caused by the small o-ring that goes between the two halves of the drive leaking? The old one was very nasty/torn up.

2. When I was laying under the drive bolting it back up to the upper half I noticed gear oil dripping out a small hole that is right above where the shifter bracket/lever mate together and the stud at the very front of the drive. I did not get a picture yet, but I will try to tomorrow. But I have no idea why there would be gear oil leaking out of there. It is about a 3/16" hole. I ran out of daylight and had to hurry to get the boat back to the storage yard... :(

2. I need help identifying the year of the drive so I can find the correct parts for it and also a service manual.

Kind of a long post, sorry. Thanks in advance!

The hole shown in the pic is the speedometer hole. One the top side of the lower half is a place where its connected to a hose. Your leaking lube between the halves and its leaking into the hole above and coming out that hole

With water in with the lube you have a seal problem. Need to remove the entire drive, drain the lube and pressure test it to find where your leaking. How to pressure test is in the sticky's

Use the link below to see which drive you have

The seal below the water pump wear plate needs replacement. The "quad seal" if not correctly installed will cause a gear oil leak also

Thanks for the replies. I replaced the quad seal while I had everything apart, so hopefully that will fix things.
Bt Doctur - what is the water pump wear plate? I replaced everything that came in the Quicksilver Water pump repair kit, is it one of those O-rings?
Thanks again.
