I just purchased a Sea Ray Sundeck from Texas (about 1000 msl) and am planning to use it in Arizona (approx 3000 msl.......it powerplant is an Mercruiser 5.0 efi w/alpha 1 gen ll with a stainless 19 pitch prop. Anyone have experience with this? Is there need for a new prop or will I have to swap gears to use the 19? Would I just be better off with a 17 prop? it currently has 1.62r gears.....any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

A 5.0 with 1:62's should have no trouble with a 19. I run a 5.7 with 1:62's and a 19 on a much heavier boat at approx 6500 ft wih no issues.

Just as dockwrecker mentioned you should be ok with your current gears. If you are not reaching your desired RPM it would be best to drop in pitch on your prop. Plus you will have a nice spare 19P if you ever tow the boat to a lower altitude or ding your new prop.
