I just replaced the impeller in my alpha1 gen1. I pulled the plastic housing (where the copper tube connects to, I think it is called the water pocket cover) off the upper unit to inspect it. I need the torque specs for these four bolts (found something that said 30-50 inch\lbs, that is a large range). I would also like the specs for the rest of the bolts that connect the lower unit to the upper. I came across something that said 38 ft/lbs for the hex bolts. but I do not know if this is correct. It is on a 3.0 mercruiser. I ordered a manual but it is not here yet. Thanks

uh, tight? - german torque (guttentight)

tight is tight, never once put a torque wrench on any of those bolts/nuts - haven't had one come apart yet

besides i don't have an open-ended 5/8" torque wrench for the two nuts on either side of the drive - and using a crows foot isn't gonna give the right torque anyway

i use my torque wrenches where they are most definitely needed:

-pinion nut
-lower driveshaft bearing retainer (when applicable)
-checking/setting rolling torque
-bearing carrier/upper retainers - yes i use the chart in the manual for applying 200 lb/ft torque
-top cap bolts

and i know all the torque specs by heart cuz i love drives
