Ok, so i had gear oil leak, tracked it down to oil seals under the water pump base. replaced. Had drive in garage, put 15 lbs pressure on it, held all nite. Next day , yesterday put drive on boat, filled with gear oil, ran operational check on muffs, all good. Drained gear oil, [suspected water intrusion from failed seals, drained oil as a flush].
Yest afternoon, almost 90 deg, drive in direct sunlite, gonna pressure check again, put in 15lbs. four hrs later, still at 15 lbs. Got up this mornin' temp mid 60s, drive in shade, pressure down to 12.5 lbs...:facepalm: Now WTH!? Couldnt find a leak[soapy water etc.] Wondered if pressure loss could be just from temp change, tire pressure and most enclosed containers will pressurize at bit if warm. Sun was coming over the rooftop, spun the boat so the drive was gettn hit broadside. It only took about 45 min to gain my 2.5 lbs back. Solid 15 lbs again!!!
I lost 16.67 % of my pressure [TEMPORARLY] just from the temp diff. Glad I didnt start tearing into stuff..
Here is yet 1 more pic of a homemade pressure gauge. T fitting borrowed from under the hood of my 77 Cutlass, valve stem snipped from a bike tube, pushed thru hose, a tire pressure gauge, and a lube pump hose and fitting.
