We're on vacation. When running at slow speeds, seems like more noise coming from my Gen 1 Alpha connected to a 350 block. I did so,e work over the winter and was unsure of my success, so I pressure tested the drive, thank you Don, you will be missed, and it passed fine.

While floating in the water today, I was checking the prop, and I noticed when I pull in the props, there is a little bit of movement. Don't know if this is normal.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

About 1/8" longitudinal movement of the propshaft is normal.

What work did you do on the drive?

I rebuilt the water pump, but when I attached the lower to the upper, I caught the lower seal in the upper housing. I had to remove the top fo,the drive and just never felt comfortable With the work I did..

Did you remove the gear housing and leave the drive shaft housing on the boat? (Not a problem with that, I do it regularly) Then you took the drive shaft housing off (the bell housing) and joined the two together 'on the bench', then put the assembled drive back on the boat?

Did you pressure test after putting the two halves together? Did you fill with the right oil, the right amount, from the bottom up?

I removed upper unit, and put the new seal in. Assembled on the bench. Painted it, that was a mistake, despite taking my time, using merc paint and clear coat, drive turns grey after being in the water for a while. When Imhaul the boat, 24 hours later is black again.

U pressure tested it, maybe 15 psi using a bicycle pump. See photo.
