I'm planning to change the impeller in my Alpha 1. Does anyone have the part number of the kit I need? I've done some searching but I came up with about 5 part numbers, but no description of the differences between them. I see that some kits are for units with plastic flush screw in gear housing or without the flush screw. How can I tell before I take it all apart? Does the quad ring come in the kit, or is that a separate item?

There are a few kits. There is one with they parts needed to refresh the impeller, the one with upper housing and one that has both upper and lower housing. The quad ring comes with them.

Different kits depend on how much you wish to change. The main question I have is 'is your drive a proper Alpha One?' Post the serial number, given both housings are original) and we can tell (and please, no little 'x's in the serial number, it makes it impossible to look up)...

So, the question remains, are you just replacing the impeller, or the impeller and base plate, or the whole upper assembly (impeller, base plate and housing), and do you need the pump base also?

Yes, usually the quad ring comes in a kit.

Well, I'm not exactly sure how much I need to change. I bought my boat in April of '13 and I have no idea when the impeller was last changed. I don't run the boat much, but I want to do it as some good preventative maintenance. I guess it would be safe to assume that it needs everything. I'm away from the boat right now (work on the freighters on the Great Lakes) but I'll be home next week. I'll find the serial number and post it up then

And next week I'm off to South Africa to work on a boat.... I'll be away 6 weeks, and it's unlikely I'll have access to iboats... If the condition is 'unknown', you need to pull the drive, split it and remove the water pump housing and assess it. Use my videos on pump rebuild and make a decision based on your findings. You may find it just needs an impeller, or you might find it's been run dry and needs the whole thing, housing, base etc... Until you get it apart, you don't know. Pointless ordering parts before hand....
