Re: alpha 1 rubber O rings
It depends on your drive, but I believe my Gen II mercruiser drive has 4 small o-rings and one large seal ring. Three of the small o-rings belong to the drive shaft and the other belongs to the water inlet hole on the bell housing. The larger seal ring fits into the bell housing u-joint cavity. The larger ring seal and the water inlet o-ring can be held in place with a gasket sealing compound prior to installing the drive. The other three o-rings slide over the drive shaft and fit into the o-ring grooves on the shaft. They can be lubed with motor oil just to help them slide through the gimbal bearing. Make sure you grease the drive shaft splines before you slip the drive back on.
But again, it depends on what drive you have??
