I have a 1995 Bayline Capri, 3.0 Alpha1-Gen2. Last winter I took the drive into the marine dealer to have a seal replaced and they had a hard time getting it to pass the pressure test. Come to find out the seal around the drive shave was bad, when they pulled the shaft it was corroded. They wanted around $700 to replace the shaft, my other option was to have them clean up the corrosion and install the new seal where it contacted a different part of the shaft which worked and it held pressure. Anyway Now I loose about a cup of drive oil per day on the water and i'm assuming it's in the bellows because it's not on the ground or inside the boat. My question is does anyone have a suggestion where I can purchase a new shaft at a reasonable price, I think the Mercruiser dealer price was around $550, which seems high to me.. And is there anything in particular I need to be aware of when purchasing a shaft,, like differences in the splines,, or the length of the shaft?? I'd hate to get the wrong one.. Thanks..
