I posted a while back about the shift shaft not sitting up high enough to reach the slot on the shift mechanism of the bell housing. After some research and work I found the mechanic that did the re-seal job did not install the stainless washer that fits between the shift shaft bushing on the lower unit and the upper shaft in the upper housing.

I finally got some time to install this weekend. So here is the next question. Is it possible the mechanic while resealing my lower unit installed the shifter backwards? I swear it now works the opposite direction than the shifter on the bell housing.

Looking from the back, when in forward the control arm is straight forward, shifting to neutral then reverse, the shift shaft moves to the right. The slot on my bell housing shifts to the left when the throttle is moved from forward to neutral then reverse.

Guess I am back to the shop tomorrow. This is not giving me a good feeling.
