Mercuriser Alpha 1 gen 2 w 4.3. I bought this boat in December and when I bought it we had to run a jumper from + battery terminal to the power terminals on the trim pump.
I haven't had a chance to it out yet but I thought I'd ask the experts here at iboats for an opinion before I do go at it.

Head up to the Adults only sticky at the top of the forum, find the service manual link and download manual #14. Then look at section 1C. Complete troubleshooting of the trim system. Depending on what your problem actually is, up, down, trim, tillt, both, the solenoid may or may not fix your problem.

Bond-o - that was my first plan of attack, I haven't had a boat w. a stern drive in awhile so I thought I'd ask if there is a common fault with the solenoid.

Don - Thanks for the info about the manual. I will download and have a look later.

The previous owner had some jumper wires clipped on it and said he used the trailer button in some way to raise/lower it. He couldn't get it to budge at all when I went to look at it. I finally persuaded him to jump from the battery to raise it and it worked.

Thanks for the help,
Grant

Since jumping it works, that means the motor and pump works, The rest is fairly inexpensive and easy to fix.

When using dielectric grease on motor or other electrical components do you guys recommend using "lots" (gobs) or just enough to cover the part?

It all depends on where and what you are using it on.
