I can only trim down. Trim up and trailer do not work. Ideas?

Re: Alpha 1 trim issue

try swopping over the solenoids and see if it will go up instead of down

if so replace solenoid.

if not check for hydraulic leaks and bleed system. but try solenoid swap first.

at least if it is the solenoids you can up the leg for trailering

good luck

Sure, since neither trim up nor trailer work, I would suspect the "up" solenoid. Take a look back near the stern, should see two solenoids next to each other. the one with the blue/white wires is the up solenoid. On the front of the solenoid there is a small b/w wire and a black wire. With a voltmeter + probe on blue/white wire have someone hit trailer switch. If you measure 12V the switch is OK. If not look for a broken b/w wire either from the trim limit connector or control handle. Next jumper from the large b/w wire to the red +12V terminal, pump should run. If it does and you have 12V at the solenoid terminal you have a bad solenoid. If you don't have a voltmeter, jumper from the red terminal to the small b/w terminal, pump should run if solenoid is OK. Good luck.

what he said! :D

well done stony - easier than swapping solenoids and getting confused with loads of disconnected wires

with the + probe on the blue/white front connector where does the -ve probe go - on the aforementioned black wire next to it

cheers

Before you go getting all fancy you might just disconnect your battery and clean up the connections. That solved a solenoid problem that I had on my boat.

presumably the starter solenoid then?

and i would hardly say sticking a meter across the solenoid is getting fancy :D

fair point though
