posted here because i didnt know if this was a general question or not.

im rebuilding an 05 regal 3060 (30 footer)

the boat came factory with twin 305's.....AND bravo 3's !!!!!

well.......the drives were snapped off the boat.

i am considering cost in rebuilding.....so im thinking alphas.

my question is.....will the decrease in prop diameter have enough effect on the heavy 30 footer?
i mean there had to be a reason the factory went with a dual prop set up in the first place....right?....the 4 screws in the water would be super around the dock.....but im wondering if it will really be a factor in the boat to the point it will become a dog !

thanks all.

Re: alpha / bravo diameter sizes....will it make a difference

Ayuh,... The Bravo Is, All the various Alphas, 'n the Large gear case outboards, All run the same prop diameters, 'n the props are interchangeable....

The BIIIs of course are dual-proped, 'n te BIIs use a Massive prop, all their own...

Sooo,... Ya, it should run just Fine with Alphas,....
The Big difference between the Bravos, 'n Alphas is Durability...

Re: alpha / bravo diameter sizes....will it make a difference

so the diameter of the 3's is the same as the alphas?....

(one of the reasons im thinking about the alpha swap is after the extra expence of the b3's (the outer bell and gymbal ring is also gone) then we have to sepnd 1200 bux a side to prop the things.....at $2400, that will give me 2 new sei alphas. i may have to replace the transom any how....so the holes are inconsequential.. couplers are cheap and so are the transom parts for alphas.

they tied the b3' to 305 chevys....those cant be more than 225-250 hp.....(as you know....that is way below the bravo hp line)

im a little worried about having less bite in the water.......there is a reason the 3's were there.....but that just could have been a manufacturers statement. something like "alphas will do....but it will be easier to sell if there is b3's on it".....gives the buyer the illusion that it is a more skookum craft

Re: alpha / bravo diameter sizes....will it make a difference

Ayuh,... The Twin prop drives are Way more efficient....
I believe the props are of About the same diameter,...Not much bigger, if bigger at all.....
It's the fact there's 2 of 'em....

The existing motors will need shifting switches they don't have with Bravos...
The transom holes are the Same, whether you glass the transom or not...
The motor mounted raw water pumps will also be spare parts when yer done,...
Alphas are drive mounted...

I agree, I doubt you make any Pay-back from goin' with the Bravos...
For a Money maker, go with the Alphas....;)

bill the out drive holes are the same size? i thought bravos were larger by a tad.

the owner by now has read my 7 page report......so today he will have made a decision.
one of his partners says he can get used/rebuilt bravo's for 2k a pop....so they were leaning that way last night.....but i think the swap will save them about 2-3k a side.

Ayuh,... Since the early 90s, the transom holes have become Standardized...
Alpha Gen.IIs, Bravos, OMCs(before they went belly-up), Volvos, Yamahas,....
All of 'em use the exact same transom hole....
