I just got my boat out of storage, connected it to a hose and ran it for 20 minutes at idle. It is a 350 mercruiser alpha 1 gen 2. It ran great, water temp was around 170. No water leaks in bildge. Hot water was coming out of some ports on outdrive, but no water was coming out of thru hub exhaust. Is this normal? I thought water should be coming out with exhaust. The exhaust manifolds were hot to the touch. Thanks!

Re: alpha exhaust

You MAY have an impeller problem. It is normal to not have water out the thru hub at idle. However the risers should not get hot.

Re: alpha exhaust

I had them change the impeller when it was winterized. The risers were hot, but not so hot that I couldn't touch them. The temp gauge never got hotter than 170.

Re: alpha exhaust

I am not sure what you mean. It has a standard cooling system, there is no heat exchanger. Has only been run in freshwater. Impeller was changed when winterized by dealer. 5.7l 250hp alpha 1 Gen 2. Water temp was 170 when run at idle for 20 minutes. Engine ran great. Will be taking her to the lake today. Forecast is for sun and high of 87. Can't wait!
