Alpha gen 1 vs. gen 2

Are they both rated at 300 max H.P. and other than different bellhousings and driveshaft length, is a conversion from 1 to 2 wothwhile?

The Gen II drive will not fit an Alpha I transom shield, and you can't change the bellhousing to make it work either.

I was told the water pump is bigger on the Gen 2

the gen 2 waterpump is not one you can skip intervals on in. i see way more corrosion in this area from neglect.
