I have a 1994 mercruiser 5.7 with the alpha gen 2. Boat was fine all season and I did the gimble bearings and bellows is may this year myself. No drips or leaks all summer on the water or in the driveway. I always check fluids before we launch.

I just winterized the boat and changed the Lower drive unit oil with the standard fill procedure from the bottom plug like I always do.

A leak has developed by the Speedo cable and drive shoe. I throughly cleaned this area off thinking it was from when oil came out of the overflow when changing but has come back. What is the fixed for this and the level of difficulty?

If it is leaking from the shift shaft seal then it is super simple replacement. You can even get the plastic housing with the seal already installed making it a swap. Have to drain and split upper and lower.

Remove the drive from the boat. Drain the oil, then do a pressure test. Can't replace a seal until you know WHICH seal...
