I have an 1993 Alpha I Gen II with no gear lube reservoir. I have gear lube coming out of the water intake screens on the the lower unit. This boat has not been run yet this year and was just pulled out of storage.
Looking for direction on what seal(s) to check/replace.

You need to replace the "seal carrier" that is located right under the water pump.

Re: Alpha I Gen II gear lube leak

Oil could be coming from anywhere. One weak point on the Gen II is the 2 back to back seals on the vertical drive shaft in the upper housing. NOT a better idea and for sure NO improvement is this seal arrangement. The seals are plastic and have NO metal band to ensure they stay seated. A sloppy stab with the lower from a water pump job or similar deal can dislodge these seals. Really you have a Gen +. If these seals are the problem it requires a complete teardown of the upper to reseat the seals. When we do them we clean real good with carb or brake cleaner and run a bead of CyA (superglue) around the top to hold the seals.

Ok, I replaced #19, and #35(shift shaft seal today).

As far as the vertical drive shaft seals, if I pull the upper apart to change those seals then do I need to worry about gear shimming and such?
