Is it critical to glue the big square o-ring in place in side the bell housing before installing the drive or can you hold the o-ring in place with grease? I installed mine using grease and then read the manual

Thanks

If it gets bumped out of position with your hand or the ujoints when installing the drive, you get water in your bellows. That is expensive. But no, it's not required, just good practice.

Thank you Don -that's what I figured and you have no way of telling if its bumped out of position until you launch the boat -I will pull the drive and glue the o-ring like the manual says

Though you don't mention if you did or not (and it's not listed in the manual), for those of us that need every bit of advantage-for-success possible, I also put a dab of glue to hold the water passage o-ring in place before mounting the drive; 1 less item to worry about paying extra close attention to as I slide it on.
