I have a 96 5.7 L with the alpha 1 Gen II outdrive. Over the years, it has been increasingly more difficult to smoothly shift into forward (pulling a skier). The outdrive clicks a lot before finally going into gear. I have checked the cable adjustments many times and it is perfect. Yesterday I decided (althought all was according to the manual) to adjust the brass barrel 4 turns towards moving into gear. Seems to work better, less clicking thought still some. While playing with adjusting the brass barrel, I can adjust to the point where it will shift into forward OK, but then it will not shift into reverse very well

Any experiences??? I suspect the shfiting "dog" is wearing and the real solution is replacement.

thanks
