The 3/8" allen trim tab bolt on my 1989 Alpha appears to have the hexes rounded off. I can't get any bite at all with the allen wrench. Anybody know of any tricks other than drilling it out?

Try driving a metric allen into it, other than that its drill the trim tab off.

Check again.

The Allen does not fit nicely, the bolt hex is smaller and you can't get a bite into the bolt. You normally have to knock the allen into the bolt hex.

Seperate the upper and lower parts of the drive and use Visegrips on the head of the bolt. Then put in a new one.

Re: Alpha I trim tab bolt

Could not separate the upper and lower drive until I could get to the allen bolt under the trim tab. What I ended up doing was to enlarge the access hole to the trim tab bolt and hammered a 12mm inner metric tool into the allen bolt. The ridges gripped instantly and unscrewed fine. The enlarged hole is still small enough that the new bolt is confined. Thanks for the ideas.
