Alpha One Exhaust Bellow

In July 2008 I had my bellows replaced on my boat. I have a Mercruiser 3.0 with an Alpha One outdrive. I had to take the boat back to the shop two other times that year because the exhaust bellow kept slipping off on one end. He has a heck of a time stretching it out and finally was able to clamp it down enough where it wouldn't slip. This year I noticed the bellow was still clamped, but torn up a lot in between. My question is should I pay to get it replaced with the same part, $75, or try the bellow that clamps only to the forward end and then sits around the outdrive housing only when the drive is lowered, $35? I think I can do that one myself because I don't need a special tool. Besides sound, is there much difference between the two?

If it's slipping off, then the hose clamp is more than likely not being pushed all the way on and tightened properly.

Install the bellows onto the outer clamp position first. It's easiest to get the bellows over the flange if you have a bellows expander and reaching it through the inside of the exhaust opening. If not, then you can use two small home made "hooks" to pull it on, then once you are sure it's on securely, tighten the hose clamp with a ratchet and socket.

Again, if you don't have an expander, use two large flat head screw drivers to CAREFULLY push the bellows onto the flange on the Gimble ring. Your hose clamp hex head should be on the TOP of the flange, and facing the PORT side of the Gimble ring because there is a hole on the side of the Gimble ring to stick a screw driver in and tighten the hose clamp.

use some bellows adhesive and leave the drive lowered overnight. This should keep it on.

do what bondo said.i have done at least 10 that way.its a mercruiser part.so y not.
