Alpha One Gear Noise and Hot spot

Was running the boat on the muffs last night, everything is shifting just fine and seems to be operating correctly.

However, I'm getting an excessive hot spot on the drive, right below the "Alpha One" badge on the back of the drive. I also have an excessive amount of gear noise coming from the drive while in Neutral?

Thoughts?

Isn't that about the point where the exhaust cavity gets close to the outside? could just be that it's heat from the exhaust. second, have you checked the fluid level and looked at the fluid?

fluid level is full, checked it at the vent.

That may be correct about the exhaust, I didnt think about that, my exhaust exits both through the prop and through the small holes at the bottom of the ring.

What does it sound like when the gimble bearing goes bad? I'm wondering if it has finally started going on me and that is causing the sound.
