I had to pull the outdrive for a impeller replacement and the metal ring for the u-joint bellows came out with the outdrive. I replaced it by re-inserting it. No adhesive or silicone. Should I do something different? Is it a concern?

whoever installed it originally probably used grease instead of power tune, or aftermarket

i would remove it, clean everything off it and the bellows and see if it has a tight fit dry, if so use power tune to install it and the tune will evaporate

if its loose i would replace the bellows with oem

The bellows is tight. The part that came out is the bellows retainer ring. It appears to be thin and aluminum. I was able to pop it back in by hand.

Can someone explain how this should fit? The bellows are only a couple years old and in great shape, so I would hate to replace the bellows for just this ring. The ring is also in good shape but I am unsure how it fits and holds the bellows in place.

Does the rubber bellows stay in contact with the gimbal housing and then the ring sits over it? Or is the ring in contact with the housing and the bellow sits inside the ring?
