I'm reassembling after changing my lower unit case. I have all new seal kit as well and new vertical drive shaft needle bearing. Problem is that I am unsure if I have the shift spool and shift shaft in properly. It seems I have a lot of front/back play after pushing in the bearing carrier. The driveshaft moves in and out quite a bit. The shifter rod at the top is pointing to 12 o'clock and it seems to be in neutral at that point. What is the correct (easy to understand) method to install the driveshaft and engage it to the shift yoke properly? I tried the tilt to left method but I don't know which way the yoke should be pointing and what I am supposed to rotate to make it all align. The service manual is kind of vague to me on this and I can't find one video anywhere.

I can only add it somewhat confusing. when inserting the prop shaft on an angle you catch the shift selector ,(the "C" shape) in the shift spool, straighten the prop shaft and see with the shift rod in a straight line the prop shaft turns ccw when turning the lower drive shaft cw
