alpha one gen 2 lube reservoir spews its oil in engine compartment

Hello fellow boaters,
This has been an on-going problem.

The Boat
1998 Sea Ray 190BR signature
5.7 Liter with 1.47 GR Alpha One Gen 2
Prop Vengeance 21pitch

The Problem:
High power / High RPM (4000 or higher) evacuated lube reservoir from cap and messy engine compartment.

Attempts to correct:
1) pressure tested drive unit and found shift shaft seal leaking. Replaced with new and pressure tested. Still same condition
2) Replaced reservoir / cap with new. Same condition
3) Replaced upper and lower drive loaner from friend and appears to have improved but still evacuates reservoir with time. Different Gear Ratio unit though.

The engine is a very powerful 5.7 liter engine but should make any difference or so I am told.

I keep inspecting and replacing the lube seems emerald green and stinky which I am told is normal. No milkiness.

Try remounting the monitor bottle off the engine. It may be a harmonic (resonant vibration) that is shaking the oil up and spreading it everywhere.

You aren't overfilling the reservoir are you? As the gear lube gets hotter, it expands. If there is no air gap for the qear lube to expand it will push out of the reservoir.

I refill because contents evacuate from bottle every time engine is run above 4000RPM causing low level horn to sound. I service with lube and run. Sometimes half and sometimes more dependent on spare oil on hand. All cases are the same. I haven't run the boat with the deck lid and rear couch build removed. I wonder if vibration is in fact shaking the juice out. Pretty extreme but something has got to give.

Wow, Haven't thought of that one. I wish I could run the boat with out deck lid and couch installed but that would be an act of congress to have all the upholstery removed just to run for a look see. I guess it would be possible to move the bottle for testing. Good one and Thank you!

I think am having a similar problem on my Alpha one (actually it is now an SEI 116). Anyone have a suggestion here?

Yes, you need to start a new thread of your own. Doesn't matter if the problems are similar, the causes may be different.
