It just takes Tools, 'n talent,.... 'n the Tools can get expensive...;)

+1 to that... and I'll add that the talent can get expensive, too! Experience is a great thing, but life's lessons can cost money! Just sayin'!!;)

yup, that's the driveshaft seal, it would be in your best interest to take them the whole drive and have it pressure tested and completely resealed. The upper needs to come completly apart to replace that seal. As for time to reseal the drive, it would be hard for anyone to really give you a time. There are too many variables that we cant see, How coroded is your drive and how much do they have to fight with it to get it apart?? No one can predict that

Don,

I know you specified part #26-88397A1, which is the upper seal kit. Iboats.com does not stock this OEM part, but instead Sierra part # 18-2644. Is the Sierra product comparable or do you recommend OEM?

Also, my prop needs to replaced and currently have an aluminum 3 fin 13.75X21P installed. I am looking at purchasing this one as a replacement:

Solas Amita Aluminum Boat Propeller #1511-143-21 for Mercruiser Sterndrive Alpha One 5.7L 210 - 320 HP - iboats

First question, This will this prop be ok as a replacement? Secondly, I see they offer a thrust washer, spacer, and prop nut when buying this prop. Do I need to purchase these items when replacing the problem?
.
Thank you,

Chris

Have never used the Sierra brand seal kit, always used the Oem, so can't answer your question.

It's also best to post your prop question in the prop forum http://forums.iboats.com/prop-questions-topics-35/ , this is the engine and drive forum.

Please do not use Sierra part's. unless you want me to fix it right on a couple years.........I've used plenty of Sierra part's when I was a greenhorn in the marine business. Them are what the shop used on most everything. Since then I've moved on to a better shop and all we use is quicksilver parts, yeah a bit pricier but last longer, easier to install, better quality in my opinion. When you are on the water the last thing you want is to have something fail that you just repaired, safety first, fun next!
