Ive read the book, and even researched online and I still can't get the answer I need. I have removed all bellows and gimbal bearing. And I just can't figure out how to get the shift cable bellows off. They want me to pull my shift cable through the boat then pull the shift cable back through somehow. but in doing this they want me to cut some tubbing and remove set screws that i can't find. I think they might be in the boat but i can't find them. Ive cut a wire that goes through a set screw but that's as much as I have been able to do even after starring at the set up for the amount of time it has taken me to drink 3 beers. I'm stumped and I want to get this baby on the water. Thanks. Andrew Meiners.

Sounds like you need to find a qualified Merc tech.

Re: Alpha One (Gen. 2) Shift Cable Bellows

Ive read the book,
what book? if it's not the oem service manual, ya need to replace your book with the correct mercruiser service manual. in it you will find your answer.
i don't know to much about the gen 2 drives. but on a 1 drive, or alpha1, to get the shift boot off ya need to remove the cable to get the boot off. sounds like ya sniped the wire off the shift slide set screw. that would get the back end of the cable core wire loose, ya need to find the other end, inside the boat. ya surely need to disconnect that end too. might be where yer set screws are, i don't know. once ya get the cable end loose inside the boat, ya need to take any parts off of it so it's just the cable left, inner core wire and outer cable. once free, ya can pull the core wire out. then if it were a 1 drive or alpha1, ya would unscrew the cable from the bellhouseing and be able to pull that out. as yer pulling the outer cable out, ya would have to slide the cable boot down the cable intill the cable is out. the boot will be removed at that point.
note, like i said, i don't know anything at all about a gen. 2 drive. my susupision is that it would be simialar to other alpha drives though.... i could be wrong though. but when ya use yer oem service manual, it will point out my lack of knowledge......good luck.....

Ziggy,

Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for telling me what you knew it made it sound alot easier than it does in the book. You were excalty right. I have replace the shift cable bellows now and the exhaust bellows now i have to pull the gimbal bearing and replace the bell housing bellows. I probably should have replaced the other bellows after i pulled the gimbal bearing but im waiting on the part and i have time do the work now. I don't know if you have ever seen this but my gimbal bearing totally cracked in half and half of the bearing is still in the outer race and the other half was stuck on my yoke gear i think its called or a spline gear connected to the u-joints im not really sure. But when i pulled my outdrive out, half of the bearing came with it.
