So I'm gearing up to replace my impeller. I've done it twice since I've owned the boat, but just checked my log and it's been about 4 years since last changed (I know shame on me!). So my question is, should I use the more expensive kit that includes the housing or just the standard kit? Last time I used the standard kit (I had the part number in my log), but can't determine if I ever did the housing. What's the rule of thumb here, just the impeller or the housing too? I don't have it apart for inspection and was hoping to order parts and do it all at once. Thanks!

Do you recall the housings condition from the last time? Do you boat in really sandy areas?

If the housing had/has any scoring imbedded then it's time to do a new housing.... The thing is that housing pretty hardy and it can take some time to cause any serious scoring damage even in lightly sandy areas. You just don't know until you get in there....That mentioned, eventually you will need/want to install a new one so if the financial sources is available this go-around, then you may as well get one and if you don't need it then keep it on the shelf until you do.

Thanks, that's a good idea! I think I'll just get it apart this weekend and inspect everything, then order parts.
