I have a 1999 boat with 5.0L V8's and aplha one gen II outdrives one regular one counter rotation.

IN removing the drives from the boat I put the starboard in full forward and the port in full reverse as the book stated.

In storing the drives in the basement the kids have moved the little shift pin I believe (right and left). I was wondering what problems may arise from this and how can I get the drives back to the postion I had them in when I removed them from the boat???

thanks!

hello
you should have no problems. I use a bungee cord on the props to hold the unit in gear while reinstalling as the slightest movement of the prop shaft in the wrong direction will shift the units out of gear.
good luck and keep posting.

It Doesn't Matter, Until you actually remount them, then just turn the shift-foot to the proper position....

Have a manual on hand when reinstalling the drives so you can keep track of how to lock the prop in the correct direction as you hold the shift arm straight forward.I have done it for 15 years and still dont chance the direction of locking the prop after doing it the wrong way a few times.By the way,I use a piece of duct tape to hold the prop in place while installing the drive. It dont move an inch and thats what you want.Charlie

You have to have it in full forward or you will not be able to pull the drive off. This is needed to be done because the shift lever is straight ahead.
